Da Nang launched the tourist season in 2018 on April 27 at the Bien Dong Park in the city's Son Tra peninsula with a programme of more than 20 activities, aiming to lure and entertain visitors to the coastal city.

Prominent among the events will be a Kayak racing competition, a kite contest and pavilions introducing Da Nang tourism information, sea cuisines, tour services and performance of sea sports. Music performances will also be organised every night.

A painting contest themed sea and islands will be held for children, together with various other activities.

The number of tourists to the central coastal city of Da Nang reached more than 355,500 on holidays between April 28 and May 1, a year-on-year surge of 14.2 percent.

Of the total, there were over 101,600 foreigners and 253,900 domestic holiday-makers, up 20.2 percent and 12 percent respectively from the same time last year.

The majority of foreign visitors were from the Republic of Korea, Japan and China. They came to the city via direct flights.

ASIA-EUROPE PARTNERSHIP ON THE TABLE IN DA NANG

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF)'s 37th Board of Governors (BoG) opened on November 30th 2017 at Furama Resort Da Nang. This is the second time Vietnam was hosting the event, with the first coming within the framework of the fifth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) held in Hanoi in 2004.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam, Mr. Bui Thanh Son and Ms. Nguyen Nguyet Nga, ASEF Governor for Vietnam took part in the event. Key speakers included Mr. Kamal Malhotra, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Vietnam, Mr. Johnathan SL Ooi, vice director-general, PricewaterhouseCoopers Vietnam, Mr. Steven Everts, ASEF Governor for the EU, Alternate ASEM SOM Leader for the EU, Mr. Kyaw Zeya, ASEM SOM Leader for Myanmar, Mr. Karsten Warnecke, ASEF Executive Director, and Ms. Eva Biaudet, Chair of ASEF Board of Governors.

According to The Press & Information Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event featured 150 delegates, aiming to build a vision for a comprehensive Asia-Europe partnership. Discussions focused on major trends in the global political and economic landscape and changes in Asia and Europe as well as ASEM's role in an evolving world.

Delegates also talked about concerns for the Asia – Europe partnership, ASEM in its 3rd decade and beyond, and enhancing ASEF's relevance.
