The central city of Da Nang has overtaken HCMC and Ha Noi, Viet Nam's two biggest cities, to become the only Vietnamese candidate listed in the world's top 10 worth-living destinations for expats in 2018, according to a survey conducted by Live and Invest Overseas travel magazine.

As the country's third largest city, Da Nang has garnered widespread recognition from international visitors thanks to spectacular urban landscape without much air and noise pollution, healthy business environment, enormous tourism potential, and notably, a convenient geographical location close to world-recognized heritage sites.

City welcomes large number of foreign visitors over Tet

During the first few days of the Lunar New Year, Da Nang has welcomed thousands of foreign visitors who have arrived by both plane and cruise ship.  This is a positive sign that 2013 will be an optimistic year for the city's tourism sector.

According to tourism experts, this year will witness a significant change in the visitor markets to the city.  In particular, there will be a considerable increase in the number of foreign tourists from Asian countries, while the city will see a sharp decrease in the number from Europe and the USA.  This is mainly attributed to the current global economic difficulties.

The city saw a 26% year-on-year increase in the number of international air passengers arriving in the city during the Tet festival - more than 5,000 on 41 direct flights.

 

From now until the end of this year, it is expected that many new routes will be opened, including those from Russia, Bangkok, Hong Kong and some of the large cities in China.  These will help to bring nearly 190,000 visitors to the city, about a 20% year-on-year increase.

In addition to the popular local tourist attractions, such as the Museum of Cham Sculpture, the Marble Mountains, the Linh Ung Pagoda, and the BigC Mall, international tourists have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Vietnamese musical performance at the Nguyen Hien Dinh Tuong Theatre.

The Deputy Director of the city's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Tran Chi Cuong, said that in the 1st quarter of this year, Da Nang is likely to receive over 42,000 international passengers from 47 cruise ships, a 31% year-on-year increase.
