Cham Alley & Bodhisattva Tara
CHAM ALLEY

Legend has it that Po Nagar – the goddess who ruled the Cham culture – asked to build a sanctuary in her kingdom. Over the centuries, this civilization left artistic legacies of sandstone sculptures in round and relief, brick and metals, that show its eternal existence through religious and cultural images. The architectural design of Furama Resort Danang was inspired by the Cham Kingdom theme and magnificence, exhibiting Western colonial influences and that of modern Vietnam.
With the mission of preserving the local culture, “Cham Alley” is decorated with historical photos, collected by Furama Resort Danang, recalling the daily life of the Cham community in Central Vietnam in the past. The Cham people have been famous for their sophistication in pottery, passed down through generations, and women play an important role in creating those products. Besides, it is a strongly connected lifestyle among village people with outstanding cultural activities along with the heritage of temples and towers everlasting now.
BODHISATTVA TARA
For thousands of years, Bodhisattva Tara has been the most revered deity in the Sa.Vajrayana tradition. In countless past lives, when Bodhisattva Tara understood the reasons for samsara’s suffering, with compassion and altruism, she prayed that any sentient being would hear her name, see her, chant her mantra, and then all their wishes become true.
With the wish of peace and prosperity, Furama Resort Danang invited talented artist Vo Hoang Minh to create the incredible artwork “Bodhisattva Tara” based on the preserved bronze statue of Bodhisattva Tara Dong Duong at Da Nang Cham Museum.
Green is used as the main tone of the picture, creating a dignified, pure, and precious jade. The image of Bodhisattva Tara is depicted in an upright posture on a lotus, with a well-proportioned body, wearing a two-layer sarong extending from the slim waist down bottom with sharp pleats, dense but soft. On her head, Bodhisattva Tara wears a hat called the classic Jatamukuta with her hair wrapped high inside, the front of the hat has the image of Amitabha Buddha. The Right-hand holds the Lotus symbolizing pure fragrance, love, wisdom, containing Heaven and Earth, the Sun and the Moon, beauty, and fertility. Left-hand holds a sea snail symbolizing the control of all worldly sounds, happiness, and suffering, joy and sadness, a powerful weapon to purify, give and gather the hope of all species. Bodhisattva Tara’s square-jawed face both reflects a solemn and intellectual expression, but also con a pure gentleness full of tolerance, and charity as well as exuding the signature features of Cham ethnicity.
