According to the legend, the demon king Hiranyakashipu sought to punish his son Prahlad for his unwavering devotion to the god Vishnu. He asked his sister Holika, believed to be immune to fire, to carry Prahlad into the flames. However, Vishnu protected Prahlad, while Holika was burned to ashes.
Since then, Hindus light bonfires on the night of Choti Holi to symbolize the triumph of light over darkness, ushering in the vibrant festival of Holi.
