Vietnam eyes building national cultural tourism brand
Cultural tourism has become increasingly attractive to both domestic and international tourists over recent years and contributed to the tourism sector’s sustainable development.
Vietnam was recently named a Leading Heritage Destination, a Leading Cultural Destination, and a Leading Culinary Destination of Asia at the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA) 2020.
It was the second consecutive year Vietnam was honoured in the three categories, confirming that culture, heritage, and cuisine are key factors bringing international titles to local tourism.
The project will be developed by VNAT’s Tourism Market Department based on planning and international experience in national brand building and development, with a focus on the two strongest fields of heritage and cuisine.
Cultural tourism is set to account for 15-20 percent of the 40 billion USD in tourism revenue earned annually by 2030. By 2025 and with a vision to 2030, Vietnam will boast many special, high-quality cultural tourism products that appeal to domestic and international tourists.
The tourism sector will concentrate on promoting the national brand for cultural tourism, supporting the development of heritage and culinary tourism products, and revamping policies encouraging heritage and culinary tourism./.

The potential for cruise tourism in Da Nang
Located in the Da Nang Bay and surrounded by the Hai Van Mountain and the Son Tra Peninsula, the Tien Sa Port with its 450m-long breakwater is 12km2 in width and 12-17m in depth. Thanks to this, the port is easily accessible by large cruise ships carrying up to 5,000 passengers each.
From the Tien Sa Port, international cruise ships can find it accessible to other major ports of Viet Nam, and those of the world such as Hong Kong (China), Taipei – Taiwan (China), Manila (Philippines), Singapore, Malaysia, Shanghai (China), and Yokohama (Japan).
In recent years, Da Nang has focused on expanding the Tien Sa Port, upgrading transport infrastructure, and simplifying entry/exit procedures for cruise ship passengers with a view to developing Tien Sa Port into a modern cruise ship port in Central Viet Nam, and Viet Nam at large.
“One focus should be on developing new and special tourism products which are suitable to tourists of different age groups. Heed also should be paid to introducing intangible cultural values into one-day tours, including Cham dance, Tuong performances, bai choi (singing while acting as playing cards) performances, and water puppet shows, in a bid to attract more cruise ship passengers to Da Nang” Mrs Huong emphasised.

Da Nang Boosts Innovative Approaches To Tourism Promotion Strategies
Noticeably, the Da Nang Tourism Association has recently partnered with municipal Department of Tourism to make the debut of the second tourism stimulus programme with a view of stimulating travel demand for the rebound and revitalisation of domestic tourism, following the first running from 23 May to 31 June, following successful containment of the first coronavirus wave in Da Nang.
Of especial note, one of the new innovations observed from the latest stimulus programme is that, instead of offering discounts and other attractive deals just at press conferences as previously, this much-awaited event was broadcast live on the Danang FantastiCity fanpage.
This new approach, in deed, was hailed by the general public, for bringing up a high efficiency in boosting interactions with netizens, especially enabling them to gain deeper insights into what Da Nang longs to offer to its potential holiday makers.
During his recent meeting with the Da Nang tourism industry leaders, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung suggested that Vietnamese localities, including Da Nang, innovate its way of boosting tourism promotion.
Amidst the trend of digital transformation in the world currently being stronger than ever, the application of digital technology in tourism operations to make the best possible travel experience is very essential to businesses active in tourism industry, hereby partly assisting them in surviving, and gaining profits even amid the pandemic.

Stunning photographs of black-winged stilt on Son Tra Peninsula
Black-winged Stilt can be found both on the coast and inland on any wadeable pond, lake, marsh or stream. They have the longest legs in relation to their body of any bird in the world. Plumage is very variable and head markings can differ enormously, but they invariably have black wings – hence the name, not unsurprisingly.
In Da Nang, the migratory bird can be easily found on the waters at the foot of the Son Tra Peninsula, and it always brings an endless source of inspiration to both amateur and professional photographers.
Our freelance photographer Nguyen Hong Huy has captured stunning photos of this bird.
